|Shakespeare was a hunk of a man, wasn't he?|
It’s not easy for me to understand, or live with, but I know that Shakespeare isn’t everybody’s cup of tea. And for those people, it might be equally difficult to understand why Shakespeare is the world’s most famous playwright.
Well, here are the top 5 reasons to love the Bard of Avon.
1. Words, Words, Words!
Shakespeare is responsible for introducing some of the words you use on a daily basis into mainstream English. If it weren’t for Shakespeare, you wouldn’t be worthless or puking. You wouldn’t have luggage or eyeballs, and there would be no pedants.

2. You’re Quoting and You Don’t Even Know it
As well as introducing a large number of words into the English language, Shakespeare is cited as coining a number of commonly used phrases, some of which you may never have known were Shakespeare’s. For instance, did you know that ‘foregone conclusion’ was first brought into common usage by Shakespeare in the play Othello?

still use today
3. He Was a Radical
To some, Shakespeare may seem like a crusty, old fuddy-duddy, but, in his time, Shakespeare was one cool dude.
He was rich, famous and really quite handsome in his younger days. In short, he was the Brad Pitt of Elizabethan England. He was also a maverick, ignoring accepted rules in poetry and play writing. The results were works that proved hugely popular and, more importantly, their impact continues, and their style is still mimicked some four hundred years later.
4. He Wrote About Things That are Timeless
|When it comes to drama and the English language,|
Shakespeare really is the man.
Some people might find it difficult to get to grips with the language of Shakespeare, but there’s no mistaking the timeless allure of: passion, suspense, violence, deception, romance, philosophy, satire, betrayal, ambition, foolishness, jealousy, slapstick, insanity, lust, psychological thrills, war, murder, intrigue and…toilet humour.
5. Props to The Man
Even if you hate Shakespeare, you have to give credit where credit is due. The guy is the most famous playwright (possibly writer) to ever grace the planet. His plays are the most widely performed of anybody in the history of drama, and even if you don’t ‘get it’, you’ve got to admit, the man is not as famous as he is for nought.
